The Peoples Democratic Party has taken steps to restore order in its ranks after the Supreme Court issued the Certified True Copy of a ruling backing the suspension of former National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu.All five justices on the panel rejected the cross-appeal lodged by Anyanwu and his co-appellants, confirming that the suspension remains in effect. The court also stated that officials under suspension cannot legally represent or act for the party in any official capacity.
Following the release of the judgment, the PDP said any moves, statements, or appointments made by Anyanwu and his allies while suspended carry no validity within the party. The decision has also raised questions over the March 29, 2026 national convention held in Abuja.
Party members contend the gathering lacks legal standing since it was organized by individuals still under suspension at the time.
To keep the party running, the PDP’s National Executive Committee approved the formation of an Interim National Working Committee at its 103rd session.
The interim panel, led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, has assumed day-to-day leadership in accordance with the PDP Constitution.
Presiding over the meeting, former Senate President Adolphus Wabara said the intervention was necessary to bring the party’s operations in line with the court’s verdict and its own constitutional rules.
