Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, pledging to implement the Supreme Court’s judgment without hesitation.
In a decisive move, he has directed the immediate handover of local government councils to the Heads of Local Government Administration, ensuring a seamless transition.The governor’s directive follows the Supreme Court’s recent judgment, which nullified the local government elections held in October 2024.
The court also recognized Martins Amaewhule as the legitimate Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, alongside 26 other lawmakers as the authentic members of the legislature.
Furthermore, the apex court voided the state budget and ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant-General of the Federation to halt further fund disbursement to the Rivers State government.
The court instructed Governor Fubara to re-present the budget before the duly recognized House of Assembly, led by Speaker Amaewhule.In a broadcast to the state, Governor Fubara assured that his administration would study the judgment and implement its ramifications without reservations.
He emphasized his commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that the state’s affairs are conducted within the framework of the constitution and due process.
The governor urged citizens to remain calm and peacefully go about their legitimate daily activities, assuring them that his administration would continue to work tirelessly to meet their aspirations.
