Hon. Aliyu Audu, Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Bola Tinubu, has resigned has position, citing concerns over the erosion of democratic values in Nigeria.
In his resignation letter made available on Monday, Audu specifically pointed to the “unholy alliance” between President Tinubu and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as a key reason for his departure.
He expressed his discomfort with the current political landscape, warning that attempts to silence opposition voices and undermine Nigeria’s democratic fabric could lead to a one-party state.
He emphasized the importance of ideological diversity and allowing alternative voices to be heard.Audu submitted his resignation letter on June 8, 2025, through the Office of the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, with the resignation taking effect immediately.
Despite his resignation, Audu reiterated his support for President Tinubu’s economic reform agenda.However, warned that the ruling party’s actions could lead to a de facto one-party state, undermining Nigeria’s democracy.
He called on the ruling party to build a Nigeria rooted in ideas, vision, and integrity, rather than political uniformity.
Audu’s resignation has sparked debate about the direction of Nigeria’s democracy and the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) internal dynamics.
His departure highlights the challenges facing the Tinubu administration in balancing political alliances and democratic values.
