The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a significant step towards resolving its internal conflicts by establishing a seven-member reconciliation committee.
The decision to establish a reconciliation committee was taken on May 12, 2025, when the PDP Governors Forum and former governors named Bukola Saraki as the head of a seven-member reconciliation committee.
This committee aims to engage party members and foster unity ahead of the National Executive Committee meeting on May 27 and the National Elective Convention scheduled for August.
The committee comprises prominent members of the party, including:- Governors: – Dauda Lawal (Zamfara State) – Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau State) – Peter Mbah (Enugu State)- Senators: – Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa West) – Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe North)- Former Governor: – Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia State).
The committee’s primary objective is to address internal disputes and conflicts within the party, particularly ahead of the NEC meeting and the national convention in August.
By reconciling aggrieved members, the party hopes to strengthen its internal cohesion and prepare for the challenges ahead.
The establishment of the reconciliation committee comes on the heels of recent defections, including Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s move to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, PDP Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has expressed confidence that the defections will not weaken the party.Instead, he believes that the party will emerge stronger and more resilient.
The NEC meeting, scheduled for May 27, is expected to be a crucial event for the party. The meeting will provide a platform for the party’s leadership to discuss key issues, resolve internal disputes, and prepare for the national convention.
With the reconciliation committee in place, the party is hopeful that the meeting will be productive and pave the way for a successful national convention.
