EFCC To Release Very Dark Man After Bail Conditions Are Met

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed that social media critic Martins Otse, aka VeryDarkMan (VDM), will be released once he fulfills his bail conditions.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale stated this in an interview with BBC News Pidgin, amid public concern over VDM’s arrest and detention.

According to Oyewale, VDM was arrested over allegations of cyberstalking following several petitions.

“We arrested him to respond to allegations raised against him by petitioners. We’ll release him when he meets bail conditions and take the case to court,” he said.

Oyewale dismissed speculation linking the arrest to a commercial bank, saying the EFCC received petitions from individuals, not corporate bodies. The agency aims to protect petitioners and ensure justice.

VDM was reportedly picked up by EFCC operatives on Friday, with some reports alleging he was manhandled. The EFCC maintains that VDM’s release depends on meeting his bail terms.
