President Bola Tinubu has removed Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, amid reports of jubilation at the Police Headquarters.
Tunji Disu is set to take over, following Egbetokun’s controversial tenure, which was marked by calls for his removal due to insecurity concerns.
Egbetokun’s extension was previously criticized by human rights activist Omoyele Sowore and others, who questioned Tinubu’s commitment to addressing Nigeria’s security issues.
Some had argued that Egbetokun’s extension was unconstitutional, while others saw it as a move to maintain the status quo.
The new appointment is expected to bring fresh perspectives to the police force.
