US Strikes Exposes Nigeria’s Security Failuresdr. Dr Olawepo-Hashim

Abuja, Nigeria

A former presidential candidate and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has slammed the APC-led government over Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, citing recent US airstrikes targeting Islamic State elements as proof of governance failure.

In a statement on Sunday December 28th, Olawepo-Hashim said the airstrikes highlight international concern over Nigeria’s deteriorating security, particularly in the North West, where terrorist groups are gaining influence.

“This intervention signals growing international concern over Nigeria’s deteriorating security situation,” he warned.

He noted that his team had predicted the rise of extremist groups like IS in the North West since 2021, attributing it to deepening poverty, governance failure, and weakened institutions.

“These failures have emboldened extremist groups while silencing moderate voices,” he said.

Olawepo-Hashim urged urgent internal reforms, improved governance, and decisive leadership, questioning the government’s readiness to act.

“Nigeria can no longer afford denial or half measures in the face of this existential threat,” he stressed.
