The Plateau State Police Command on Friday arraigned 20 suspects before the court for their alleged roles in the June 20, 2025, attack in Mangun community, Mangu Local Government Area, which resulted in the tragic deaths of 12 people.
The suspects are facing four count charges, bordering on criminal conspiracy, causing grievous bodily harm, and culpable homicide, punishable under Sections 59, 313, and 189 of the Plateau State Penal Code Law of 2017.
According to the prosecution, led by Samuel Idowu Ikutanwa, Officer-in-Charge of Legal, Plateau State Police Command, the defendants allegedly conspired and armed themselves with dangerous weapons, including firearms, cutlasses, machetes, and petrol, before launching the attack that left 21 people injured and 12 others dead after an 18-seater vehicle was set ablaze.
All 20 suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges. The prosecution requested an adjournment for a case management hearing, which the defense, led by Garuba Pwul (SAN), did not oppose. However, the defense filed a bail application that could not be heard due to the prosecution’s late service.
Justice Boniface Ingyou adjourned the matter to October 13, 2025, for case management hearing and ordered the suspects to remain in custody at the Jos Custodial Center pending further proceeding.
