In a heartfelt congratulatory message, the Senior Special Adviser to the Executive Governor Plateau State On Middle-Belt Affairs Hon. Dan Kwada, Joint Leadership of Middle-Belt Ethnic Nationalities in Plateau State extended warm felicitations to Prof. C.J. Dakas, SAN, upon his esteemed appointment as Chairman of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Hon. Kwada, in a statement he personally signed highlighted Prof. Dakas’ exceptional leadership, vast experience, and unwavering commitment to justice and legal reform in Nigeria, noting that his appointment is a testament to his remarkable career.
“Your tireless contributions to law making and reforms in Nigeria have not only earned you this recognition but have also significantly impacted the nation’s legal framework,” Hon. Kwada stated.
According to Hon. Kwada, during his tenure as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Plateau State, Prof. Dakas demonstrated a strong commitment to upholding justice, equity, and the rule of law. His influential book, “The Right to be Different: Perspectives on Minority Rights, the Cultural Middle Belt and Constitutional change in Nigeria” (2001), underscores his dedication to promoting the rights and interests of marginalized communities.
Expressing confidence in Prof. Dakas’ leadership, Hon. Kwada noted that he will drive critical reforms as Chairman of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission, updating laws to benefit Nigeria and enhance democracy and good governance.
“Your expertise and experience will undoubtedly shape the Commission’s work, ensuring that Nigeria’s laws are aligned with international best practices and responsive to the needs of its citizens,” he added.
Hon. Kwada also appreciated President Tinubu for considering a representative from the Middle-Belt for this important assignment, recognizing the value of diverse perspectives in shaping Nigeria’s legal landscape and called on the President to consider appointment for the people of the region considering how they have been marginalized.
