Southern Kaduna Leaders Demand Probe Of Ex-Governor El-Rufai Over Alleged Crimes, Human Rights Violations

Abuja, Nigeria –

Leaders of the Southern Kaduna people have demanded a judicial probe into the alleged crimes and human rights violations committed by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, during his tenure from 2015 to 2023.

The Southern Kaduna Leadership Council (SKLC) made the demand in a statement, accusing El-Rufai of orchestrating a “reign of terror” against the people of Southern Kaduna.

The council alleged that El-Rufai’s administration was responsible for genocide, ethnic cleansing, and systematic human rights abuses.

According to the SKLC, El-Rufai’s administration allegedly paid individuals to prevent killings in Southern Kaduna, which the council described as “criminal appeasement”.

The council also cited arbitrary detentions, including the imprisonment of Adara and SOKAPU leaders, and breach of fundamental human rights.

The SKLC also accused El-Rufai’s administration of altering boundaries without consent, such as moving Ladduga from Ikulu Chiefdom to Adara Chiefdom.

Additionally, the council alleged that despite mass displacement from relentless attacks, El-Rufai’s administration failed to establish Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.

The SKLC has demanded a full judicial inquiry into El-Rufai’s tenure, including public hearings.

The council also wants El-Rufai banned from holding public office for life and a probe into individuals paid by him to prevent killings.

Furthermore, the Adara Elders have sued El-Rufai for N2.3 billion over alleged human rights abuses, including unlawful imprisonment and harassment.

The elders claim they were detained and imprisoned by El-Rufai’s administration in 2019 without justification and later released.

The SKLC has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to authorize an investigation into El-Rufai’s alleged misconduct.

The matter is currently unfolding, and the people of Southern Kaduna are eagerly awaiting justice.

In a related development, the SKLC has expressed optimism that the judicial probe will bring to light the alleged atrocities committed by El-Rufai’s administration and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

The demand for a probe into El-Rufai’s alleged crimes has sparked widespread debate, with many calling for accountability and transparency in governance.

As the matter continues to unfold, one thing is certain – the people of Southern Kaduna will not rest until justice is served.
