Revamping the Lower Benue Basin: Dr. Gizo Launches Facility Tour

Abuja, Nigeria – June 4, 2025

The Chairman of the Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority, Chief Dr. Amos Gizo, has launched a comprehensive facility tour across the four states within the Lower Basin.

The tour aims to assess progress, identify challenges, and outline strategies for improvement.

According to Amos Gizo Media Information and Resource Center, Dr. Gizo was accompanied by his aides, including former Chairman of Plateau State Board of Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Alrat Dashe, and team.

During the tour, Dr. Gizo visited the Lower Benue Facility in Shendam Local Government Area, Plateau State, where he inspected facilities and met with community residents.

The Project Manager, Mr. Mathias Yilbial, informed the Chairman about key challenges facing the Basin, including land encroachment and abandoned projects.

Dr. Gizo assured the community of his commitment to addressing these issues and implementing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policy directive on revamping the Authority to boost food production.

The Chairman also inspected ongoing projects at Longkat Lower Benue Basin in Pankshin South and expressed concern over halted progress.

He directed immediate repairs for two abandoned tractors and promised to allocate funds for the same.

In addition, Dr. Gizo paid courtesy visits to traditional rulers in the area, including the Traditional Ruler of Tsoro Community, His Royal Highness Chief Dabial, and the First Class Paramount Ruler of Long Goemai, His Royal Majestic Chief Martin Shaldas. They discussed plans to revamp the Lower Basin and implement President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Throughout the tour, Dr. Gizo reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing the productivity and development of the Lower Benue Basin, aligning with the federal government’s objectives of boosting food production and promoting modern agriculture.

The tour is expected to cover all four states within the Lower Basin, with Dr. Gizo and his team working to identify areas of improvement and develop strategies for sustainable development.
