Plateau state Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, on Saturday visited communities recently attacked by gunmen in Bokkos Local Government Area, promising to ensure the safety of lives and property.
He described the attacks as a deliberate attempt to keep the people in perpetual poverty by frightening them into abandoning their land and farms.
The Governor who commiserated with families who lost their loved ones called on residents to be united and vigilant and promised to improve basic amenities such as road networks, electricity, and water in the communities.
Governor Mutfwang also urged youths to shun criminal acts and unite to defend their communities from further attacks while commending the people for their resilience and promised to support them in rebuilding their damaged houses.
The governor thanked President Bola Tinubu for his genuine concern for the safety of the people of Plateau State, stating that the president has demonstrated his love for the state by working to end the cycle of attacks.
The visit followed an attack on April 2 that resulted in over 40 deaths, 383 houses destroyed, and over 1,000 people displaced in Manguna District of Bokkos Local Government Area.
The district head of Manguna, Raymond Alo, thanked the Governor for visiting and providing aid, and requested building materials to help displaced residents rebuild their homes.
