Chief Dr. Amos Gizo, Chairman of the Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority, has been unanimously elected as Coordinating Chairman of Chairmen of the 12 Rivers Basin Development Authorities in Nigeria.
The election took place on April 7, 2025, during the inaugural meeting of the 12 Basins Chairmen in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.
Other officials elected to serve with Chief Dr Amos Gizo are Barr Ebikemi Boi Bosin Chairman Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority as Secretary of the forum while Alhaji Abdullateef Alakawa the Chairman of Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority is to serve as Treasurer of the Forum and Alhaji Sanusi Babantakko of the Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority is the Organizing Secretary of the Forum.
As Coordinating Chairman, Dr. Gizo, alongside his team, will play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective implementation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
His responsibilities will include coordinating with the Ministry of Water Resources and the Presidency to expedite the activities of the 12 Basins, fostering partnerships and collaborations with critical stakeholders, and driving initiatives that enhance the overall performance of the Basins.
The 12 Rivers Basin Development Authorities and Their Coverage Areas are:- Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority: Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, and Osun, led by Chairman Odebunmi Olusegun- Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority: Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, and Bauchi, led by Chairman Sanusi Mohammed Babantanko- Chad Basin Development Authority: Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa, led by Chairman Abdu Dauda- Benin-Owena Development Authority: Edo, Delta North, Ondo, and Ekiti, led by Chairman Mike Ohio Ezomo- Niger Delta Basin Development Authority: Rivers, Bayelsa, and parts of Delta, led by Chairman Ebikemi Boi Bosin- Upper Niger River Basin Development Authority: Niger, Kaduna, and FCT, led by Chairman Haruna Y. Usman- Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority: Kwara and Kogi, led by Chairman Abdullateef Alakawa- Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority: Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Kogi, led by Chairman Amos Gizo Yaduksu – Anambra-Imo River Basin Development Authority: Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Abia, and Ebonyi, led by Chairman Emmanuel Anosike- Hadeja Jamaare River Basin Development Authority: Kano, Jigawa, and Bauchi, led by Chairman Mamman Da’u Aliyu- Cross River Basin Development Authority: Cross River and Akwa Ibom, led by Chairman Wabilly Nyiam- Sokoto Rima Basin Development Authority: Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Katsina, led by Chairman Bello Yahaya WurnoDr. Gizo’s leadership qualities and prudence have garnered respect among critical stakeholders.
President Tinubu is expecting all the chairmen, Managing Directors and Executive Directors to pull their wealth of experiences together to inject new lease of life in their respective Basins in harnessing and developing the nation’s vast water resource potentials to boost agriculture especially in irrigation.
The elected officers will be presented to the Honourable Minister of Water Resources, Professor Joseph Utsev being the head of supervising Ministry for ratification and approval in due course.
