BREAKING: President Tinubu Sacks NNPCL CEO Mele Kyari, Board, Appoints Bayo Ojulari

President Bola Tinubu has sacked the CEO of NNPC Limited, Mele Kyari, along with the entire board. This major shake-up was announced early this morning by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

According to Onanuga, Kyari and the other board members appointed with Akinyelure have been removed, effective immediately.

He also stated, that’s President Tinubu has also appointed Engineer Bashir Bayo Ojulari as the new Chairman and Group CEO for NNPC Limited.

Ojulari, who hails from Kwara State, is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and is expected to bring his wealth of experience to the table, having worked with top oil companies like Elf Aquitaine and Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd.

The new board chairman, Ahmadu Musa Kida, is from Borno State and has a degree in civil engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with a postgraduate diploma in petroleum engineering from the Institut Francaise du Petrol in Paris.

The new 11-man board has been tasked with enhancing operational efficiency, restoring investor confidence, boosting local content, driving economic growth, and advancing gas commercialisation and diversification.

President Tinubu has also set ambitious targets for the new board, including increasing oil production to two million barrels daily by 2027 and three million daily by 2030.

The removal of the old board and the appointment of new leaders marks a significant shift in the leadership of NNPC Limited. With their wealth of experience and expertise, Ojulari and Kida are expected to drive growth and development in the oil and gas sector.
