FG To US Government: Christians Not Target Of Insurgency In Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially refuted claims that Christians in Nigeria are being targeted by insurgents.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government emphasized that the security challenges facing the country are complex and multifaceted, but not driven by religious bias.

According to the government, the majority of incidents related to insurgency and banditry in northern Nigeria are not targeted at followers of a particular faith or religion.

Any narrative suggesting otherwise is deemed “erroneous and misleading” .

The government highlighted its commitment to protecting the lives and properties of all citizens, regardless of faith, ethnicity, or gender.

It also noted that significant steps have been taken to address security concerns, including the deployment of security forces, intelligence gathering, and community engagement initiatives.

In essence, the Nigerian government is urging the international community, including the US government, to exercise caution and verify information before drawing conclusions or making statements that could exacerbate tensions within Nigeria.
