Supreme Court Sacks 23 Rivers State Local Govt Chairmen.
The Supreme Court of Nigeria has sacked all 23 Local Government Chairmen in Rivers State, declaring the October 5, 2024 election invalid due to gross violations of the Electoral Act.
Justice Jamilu Tukur, delivered the judgment, stating that the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission’s actions were void due to lack of compliance with the Electoral Act and guidelines.
The court specifically highlighted that the electoral body continued voter registration after announcing the election date, violating Section 150 of the Electoral Act.
