Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to combating illegal mining, which has been a significant contributor to school dropouts in mining communities across the state.
During a church service at the COCIN Headquarters Church in Jos, Governor Mutfwang called on community and religious leaders, as well as patriotic citizens, to join forces with the government to address this menace.
Governor Mutfwang also emphasized the need for unity among believers as a foundation for sustainable development in Plateau State.
The Governor expressed deep concern over the alarming rate of school dropouts in mining communities, citing recent findings that revealed a drastic decline in school enrollment in areas such as Bassa, Riyom, Jos South, and Barkin Ladi local Government areas while also mentioning that cases of child labor were uncovered in Bassa, which are being tracked.
Governor Mutfwang urged community leaders to take responsibility in sensitizing their people, stressing that the government will collaborate with religious institutions to embark on an intensive enlightenment campaign to address the issue.
He appealed to community leaders to take up the cause, emphasizing the urgency of the struggle.
